DPGNotes Tracking & Analytics Policy

1. Principles of Privacy-First Educational Telemetry

DPGNotes believes firmly that academic tools and digital note repositories must empower students without subjecting them to pervasive commercial surveillance, data harvesting, or biometric profiling. As an open-access collegiate knowledge network operated under Akshat Network Hub, we gather only the minimum telemetry strictly necessary to maintain high-speed document delivery, eliminate broken syllabus links, diagnose client-side rendering bottlenecks, and protect shared infrastructure against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) exploitation.

Our analytics architecture is engineered around the principle of Privacy by Design, in full compliance with Section 6 of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR Article 25), and the ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58/EC).

Zero PII Telemetry

We strictly do not collect student names, contact numbers, exact GPS coordinates, or private web browsing histories.

Ephemeral Identifiers

Anonymous visitor tokens rotate automatically and are never cross-referenced against real-world identity databases.

Pure Academic Utility

Metrics serve exclusively to detect trending course topics, optimize PDF load times, and preserve platform availability.

2. Comprehensive Telemetry Inventory & Analytical Objectives

To provide full transparency regarding our platform telemetry, the table below enumerates every metric captured by DPGNotes:

Telemetry Event Data Points Collected Primary Technical Purpose Storage Lifecycle
Document Engagement Subject code, semester module, reading duration bucket, PDF download counter. Determines which academic subjects require updated notes or additional formula guides. Aggregated counts stored permanently; raw logs pruned after 90 days.
Search Query Telemetry Internal search query string, matched course count, zero-result keyword flags. Expands the DPGNotes search index and tags missing university syllabi. Stripped of IP addresses; stored in aggregate for 180 days.
Cover Page Generator Quotas Daily token counter, user role (Guest / Contributor), timestamp of last generation. Enforces fair-use generation limits (1/day for guests, 3/day for contributors) without logging student personal data. Local browser storage; resets automatically every 24 hours.
Performance & Diagnostics Canvas render latency, JavaScript runtime errors, browser viewport dimensions, HTTP status codes. Identifies mobile responsive rendering glitches and repairs broken endpoints. Diagnostic error logs pruned automatically within 30 days.
Sponsor Banner CTR Aggregated impressions, banner slot identifier, anonymized click counter. Measures educational sponsorship effectiveness to fund free cloud server hosting. Aggregated statistical summary; no individual tracking profiles.

3. Client-Side Anonymous Guest Identifiers

To enable non-authenticated students to utilize search and formatting tools without requiring cumbersome login credentials, DPGNotes issues a pseudonymous client identifier (dpg_guest_id):

  • Generation Mechanism: A cryptographically pseudorandom string (e.g., gst_9f83a...) created entirely in client-side JavaScript upon first visit.
  • No Real-World Linkage: The guest identifier contains no email address, telephone number, IP address, or demographic marker. It cannot be used to de-anonymize a student's real-world identity.
  • Local Control: The token resides exclusively within your browser's LocalStorage and is wiped immediately if you clear site data or use private incognito browsing.

4. Third-Party Analytics & Google Analytics Safeguards

Where third-party telemetry tools, such as Google Analytics 4, are deployed to evaluate site-wide traffic volume, DPGNotes enforces strict cryptographic shielding:

  • Mandatory IP Masking: IP addresses are truncated and obfuscated at the earliest ingestion node before being committed to persistent analytical memory.
  • Google Signals Permanently Disabled: We explicitly disable Google Signals, preventing cross-device tracking, interest-based ad profiling, and remarketing audiences.
  • Zero Cross-Site Data Sharing: All data-sharing agreements enabling Google benchmarking or advertising ecosystem cross-referencing are deactivated.

5. Non-Sale & Anti-Brokerage Pledge

DPGNotes operates under an uncompromising ethical code: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or license student analytical data to data brokers, commercial marketing agencies, or academic research consortiums. Telemetry generated on DPGNotes exists solely to serve our active student community and optimize platform responsiveness.

6. Browser Privacy Controls, GPC & Do Not Track

You retain absolute sovereignty over your analytical footprint. DPGNotes natively respects and supports all standard browser privacy controls:

  • Global Privacy Control (GPC): When your browser broadcasts a valid GPC header, all non-essential analytical tracking scripts are automatically suppressed.
  • Do Not Track (DNT): We honor standard DNT browser requests, restricting telemetry to anonymous error diagnostics.
  • Google Analytics Opt-Out: Students may install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to disable GA tracking across all web destinations.
  • Content Blockers: DPGNotes is engineered to maintain full functionality (including PDF viewing and document reading) even when privacy-focused content blockers (such as uBlock Origin, Brave Shields, or Privacy Badger) are active.
